Do I need travel insurance?Although it is not essential we do recommend that you take out holiday insurance to cover cancellation, personal accident, illness and loss/theft of personal possessions and/or money.
Can I change the dates of my tour after I have booked?Up to 30 days before the start date of your tour it is usually possible to change your starting dates, although we will have to charge an administration fee of $30 per person to cover the considerable amount of work involved in canceling and then re-booking your accommodation. Requests for changes made less than 30 days before the start of your tour will be treated as a cancellation of your original booking.
What happens if I have to cancel? If you have to cancel your tour please inform us in writing. You can send it to us by mail, fax or email. The date from which we receive your cancellation is the date from which cancellation fees will be calculated.
What standard of accommodation do you use?We understand that people have different accommodation needs. We offer you a wide range of options to suit all tastes and budgets. Accommodations in the city are chosen based on architectural interest, position, standard of facilities, cooking and warmth of welcome. Outside the city, ger (known as a yurt) camps are available. Traditional gers are the moveable, domed structures used by nomads for centuries. These camps provide an authentic and memorable taste of Mongolian Nomadic life style. A range of alternative accommodation options is available on request.
What types of food will I be eating in Mongolia? In urban areas, you can easily find many restaurants serving Mongolian, French, Chinese, Thai, Russian, German, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Latin American foods. A typical Mongolian cuisines are mainly made of greasy meat; either meat with noodles, rice or vegetables that you can enjoy in many restaurants or cafes. Diary products are widely used by Mongolians in summer.
I'm a vegetarian / have a special diet, can you cater for this?Yes. Vegetarian meals are always available. Please tell us of this requirement before booking.
Is smoking allowed at the accommodations? Not usually. Most accommodations we use do not allow smoking in the bedrooms although there are public areas where it is permitted. Smoking is allowed in pubs and restaurants but we'd ask those of you who still smoke to respect the wishes of other tour participants and refrain from smoking at the dinner table, even if permitted by the establishment.
Can you arrange additional night's accommodation in the cities of arrival and departure?Yes. Please, let us know at the time of your initial booking. We would normally extend your stay in the hotel we'd be using for the main tour but this sometimes might not be possible. In this case, we'd find you the most convenient substitute.
What sort of vehicle do we travel in?You'll either be in the 8-seat Russian van (UAZ) or Toyoto Land Cruiser depending on the numbers on a tour. Luggage is stored beneath the floor or in a rear compartment.
How much driving do we do?We design tours so that there is as little wasted time as possible in the van, and while aboard there is plenty to see. Inevitably, there are days when we are traveling between locations and this may involve some freeway driving and more mileage. Generally, a typical day's driving would be anywhere between 150 and 300 kilometers (93 and 187 miles). There are at least three major attraction stops, and 'comfort' and meal stops.
How flexible are the daily itineraries? Can we request visits to special sites/sights?The tours are designed to be flexible. However, if we do vary itineraries it must be acceptable to all. We would not miss sites included on the provisional itineraries unless all parties are in agreement, or the particular site is not available on that particular day for a specific reason.
Are the tours suitable for children? Please check with us if considering bringing a child. If you want to bring children on a customized tour that's another matter! We can design a tour that will fit the aspirations of all aged-groups traveling.
Do I need a visa to enter Mongolia? Most foreign tourists need a visa to enter Mongolia, although there are a few exceptions such as citizens of Israel, Malaysia, Singapore and the USA. Regulations, requirements and visa costs change quite frequently, so it is always necessary to check with your nearest Mongolian Embassy for the latest information (we have the list of Mongolian Embassies Worldwide).
When is the best time to travel to Mongolia?Summer is probably the best time to visit Mongolia if you want to avoid the winter coldness. Many attractions close in winter.
